Josie Walter makes tableware and cooking pots in earthenware clay, which are decorated with slips and coloured glazes.
Most of the pots are thrown on a traditional momentum wheel, even though many of the finished shapes are oval or rectangular.

Makers of the Day 1: Hugh MacMahon & Denise Bass


Denise Bass
Denise has worked as a batik artist for many years, making pictures,scarves and greetings cards with themes drawn from the natural world.
Each piece is made using the traditional wax-resist and dye method, usually on silk, incorporating both painting and dip-dyeing to create colourful yet subtle results.

Hugh McMahon
Hugh makes sculptural leaded-glass insects, copper webs and spiders together with related jewellery.
Trained as both a sculptor and stained glass window maker, his work is realistic and intricate. Arachnophobes beware .....

Working with a variety of recycled materials, both unique and commonplace, Binnie creates housewares and jewellery.

David and Louise Salsbury work together from their home studio in Loughborough, Leicestershire, where they produce colourful earthenware pottery, gift tags and tiles.
Louise makes impressed tiles using leaves and seedheads, while David illustrates his pottery with imagery from the countryside and sea-shore.
