Craft In the City June 2012

A Celebration of Historic and Contemporary Crafts

 Jubilee Weekend Saturday 2^nd June 2012

St Mary’s Church, The Lace Market, Nottingham

10.30 am – 5.00 pm                 

Craft in the City is celebrating Nottingham’s heritage crafts and its present day designer makers. This 1 day event will be a spectacle of talented makers selling their crafts together with demonstrations of historic craftsmanship. 

St. Mary’s Church in the Lace Market will showcase this unique combination of historic and contemporary craft practitioners.

The event will take place in the nave of St Mary’s Church. Performance, demonstrations, displays and food stalls will be sited in the grounds along with refreshments of Pimm’s and local Real Ales.

Weather permitting 2D artworks will be displayed on the railings surrounding the Church. There will also be live music inside.

Maker of the Day: Anna French

Anna creates beautiful, contemporary fused glass jewellery and distinctive pieces for the home.

Using materials such as pvc, leather and semi-precious stones, Anne Symonds produces a contemporary collection of jewellery and accessories.

Maker of the Day 2: Glasshouse Beads

Glasshouse Beads artist, Jenny Gill, specialises in lampworking.
She creates glass beads which she makes into jewellery such as bracelets and necklaces.
Her range is handmade using a wide variety of colours and designs, with each item being unique.

Maker of the Day 1: Josie Walter

Josie Walter makes tableware and cooking pots in earthenware clay, which are decorated with slips and coloured glazes.
Most of the pots are thrown on a traditional momentum wheel, even though many of the finished shapes are oval or rectangular.

Makers of the Day 1: Hugh MacMahon & Denise Bass

Denise Bass
Denise has worked as a batik artist for many years, making pictures,scarves and greetings cards with themes drawn from the natural world.
Each piece is made using the traditional wax-resist and dye method, usually on silk, incorporating both painting and dip-dyeing to create colourful yet subtle results.

Hugh McMahon
Hugh makes sculptural leaded-glass insects, copper webs and spiders together with related jewellery.
Trained as both a sculptor and stained glass window maker, his work is realistic and intricate. Arachnophobes beware .....
